How long are the internships?

Internships are a minimum of 2 weeks, but you can mix and match projects to create your own internship for 2 - 6 weeks. 

What type of credit do I get?

You can earn between 3 and 6 credits of experiential internship credit through Michigan State University.  These credits can be used to fill many requirements for students at Michigan State University studying biology, ecology, conservation, natural resource management, animal husbandry, pre-vet, criminal justice, animal behavior physiology and related fields.  These credits can also transfer to most United States universities and some international universities.

Are there requirements to quality for an internship?

You need to have a GPA of 2.75. No negative academic reports on your transcript and have your application approved by MSU.

What is the cost for the program?

Cost varies by project and duration, generally programs start at $2500 for 2 weeks.

What do the Program Fees include: 

Housing, Meals, On Site Instruction, Laundry, Wifi, transport to projects from the arrival airport/town and travel insurance from MSU.

Program fees do not include:

Airfare and any items of a personal nature. Tuition will be based on total credits chosen by students.

When can I travel?

Travel to the projects can be scheduled most of the year depending on your availability. We have an MSU accompanied tour in June 2023 to the Marine Conservation Project, but contact us for other options.

Where do I fly into? 

Johannesburg Airport, South Africa (code JNB) for the Cheetah Rewilding. Inhambane Airport, Mozambique (airport code INH) for the Marine Conservation Project.

What happens when I arrive at the airport?

A Field Study Abroad staff member will be meeting you in the arrival hall, with a sign with the projects name.

What happens if I get ill on the program?

Although this is by no means a regular occurrence, interns do sometimes get ill while interning with us. The coordinator for the project will ensure you receive immediate medical assistance. In the event of a serious illness or accident, each intern will be covered by MSU’s insurance policy, and we will assess the correct procedure for treatment.

When should I submit my application to join a project?

While there is no hard cutoff, the sooner you submit your application and pay for the project, the better. The projects fill up fast for the summer period.

Are flights included?

No, flights are not included.

Do you cater for vegetarians or other dietary requirements?

Yes, we can accommodate most dietary requirements, please contact us for prior to booking.

Will I receive a certificate for my internship project attendance?

Yes, the certificate will be emailed to you within 7 days of completion of the project.
